You Should Be A Rapper!!!

What's good people?I know that it's been a minute since ya boy blogged about anything!Usually alot of my blogs fall upon deaf Myspace url's,but it's all to the good tho! This is what I do for the love first!Plus I like connecting with people on a mental vibe which allows me to add on!But anyways,I was at work the other day,(I work at the airport for those who do not already know!lol),but anyways,I was at work the other day...oh,my bad...first,let me send a shout out to George Carlin!Rest in peace my friend! You will be truly missed homie! At least by me anyways!Anybody that don't know the history on this man needs to get their Google game up big time!Dude was mad funny, but at the same time on some very serious ish! Now,back to what I was saying!Oh yea,I was at work the other day and ran into an old friend of mine from when we were younger growin' up!Alot of people are fans of this cat and some are not, but,I knew this dude way before the fame and it's all good! But anyways, this is just a continuation of a series of conversations that me and this cat has had over the years stemming from when he first got in the game!He has always honestly told me that this was not his dream but he was actually FORCED into the music game due to a series of run-ins with the law!And that he felt like I should be doing this thing rather than him!Crazy right?I know because I thought the same thing when he first said that shit to me!lol. Now anybody who has heard of this guy knows his history with the law so no need to go there with that part of the story! And if you don't know...reference the George Carlin shout out at the opening of this blog and GET YOUR GOOGLE GAME UP!But,you know what?Being the opened minded person that I am,I have always told him that he is blessed to be in the positon that he is in and he needs to do good things with that blessing no matter what form that this blessing might take!I honestly believe that if you sincerely in your heart try to do good by people that that same "good" will eventually come back to you in some shape or form! But enough rambling!lol.Peep out our conversation while I was on the security x-ray checking homeboy's shit!lol.

Project Pat:What's up Chill Will? How have you been babee?

Me:I'm good Pat!What's good with you playboy?

Project Pat:I'm blessed mane! What's been going on with you?

Me:Still at it mane! You know me!

Project Pat:Ay Chill Will...You should've been a rapper my nigga!

Me:Word?!!!Ay,that's what's up!Take my number down and holla at me when you get a chance!

Project Pat:Alright brother!I think that I already have your number locked in my
phone! You do have the same number right?

Me:Calls out number...3-1-4...

Project Pat:Aw yea Chill...I still got you mane!Holla at me!

Me:Aiight Pat!Peace homie!

Project Pat:Peace Will!(Then he commenced to gather his things and heads for his gate!)

Me:I'm going on break!I'll be back in 30!

LOL.See nothing special! It's just ironic that we've been having these same conversations since he first started rappin'!lol.Crazy right? Now,I know the famous question of the day to me is...Well,Will...if Project Pat thinks that you're such a good rapper and continues to give you props after all these years...WHAT IN THA HELL HAPPENED HOMIE???!!!lol. Now that is a good question that only The Father can answer! All praises due!Even tho I sometimes feel like I might have missed my calling or my so-called "window of opportunity" six or seven times...your boy is STILL GOOD!!!You know what?I'm lyin' my ass off!lol. But seriously though, the boat don't stop until the fat lady falls her big ass over board and completely consumed by man-eating sharks! So there's always another chance!Peace!-Will a.k.a. Did I Miss Something ?

What's good people? You know that it's got to be something for your boy to post two blogs in one day!I just had some ish that I had to get off of my chest concerning how people take this Myspace thing and themselves TOO seriously!lol.I just had a run in with this cat who found me and asked me to add him and help him out a lil!He asked me to check his music out and holla back at him.So I did!I wasn't really feelin' this cat's music, but he can sing though,so I gave him my opinion on what he should do to get at some people that could help him.But he thought that I was connected to some industry cats, and when he found out that I wasn't,homeboy straight flipped!lol.Which is pretty funny and very un-gangsta in my personal opinion! It kills me how dudes talk greasy while hiding behind their computer screen!lol.Yeah fam, that's real tough of you homie!Knowing that we will more than likely never, ever, ever, ever, ever see each other face to face,so dudes feel the need to say something totally disrespectful and completely out of the way! It's funny tho,and very gay of you homie, might I add!lol. But anyways,I can show you better than I can tell you, cause guess what?I saved the conversation!I'm on some 50 shit with this one!lol.Check it out!-Will

Now,this is dude's original message to me...By the way,this cat's name is John Campfield!lol.Yeah,I know right?lol

OPEN UP YOUR MIND FOR A CHANGE IS COMIN!"

My response...What's good fam?Peace be upon you my good brother!I've read your write up on you in The Hip Hop Giselle and I definitely feel your pain homie!Sometimes I believe that alot of people already in the industry miss the vision of a "true" artist due to the pressures of creating a so-called "hit record"!My experience with music has allowed me to enjoy timeless creations over the fast-paced microwavable product that is created and passed off as "music" today! Now,enough about my jaded view of the music industry fam!lol.Back to you homie! When I listen to your music I immediately notice one thing...your powerful vocals!Sometimes our voice is the most critical instrument when creating songs!But...we also have to keep in mind the feeling or the mood of the music!I understand your vision as far as wanting to create a "new" sound and pave your own lane so to speak in the industry. But,sometimes we try to be a lil "too" different in our goals and creative process that many record labels can't and won't take the time to try and see "the bigger picture"!Don't get me wrong...DIFFERENT is good to a certain degree! But in this day and age the indutry has to be able to compare you to something!Which I'm a not a big fan of,but whatever gets you closer to that dream homie!lol.
But like I mentioned, the labels and A & R's have to be able to compare you to somebody in order to sell that vison to the brain dead public these days!Who only follow what MTV and BET feed them visually! So when I listen to your voice,I immediately thought of Anthony Hamilton!Voice-wise that is!But,when I think of how you wanna move musically,I immediately thought of John Legend! Not vocally, but musically!Which,in my opinion,is an ill combination! To be able to fuse the two is not hard, but many people haven't stepped to it like that!Have you ever thought about reaching out to the producers of these artists?Cats like James Poyser,?uestlove, and Karriem Riggins?I don't know if you follow their discography, but you might wanna check into that and peep the sound a lil!I can even hear you with a lil Raphael Saddiq vibe!Look at what him and ?uestlove did for D'Angelo's Voodoo album!Joint was dumb crazy! But,anyways, enough rambling from me homie! You can find these cats on myspace and holla!Stay peace!-Will

His response...uh..okay.!!!. So in other words..You can't help me. THANKS

I can't help you???Nigga what?lol. My response...Well...my help to you my brother is to give you my honest opinion!I'm not industry connected if that's what you think!lol.I'm grindin' in this thing just like the next man,but I do help where I can homie! You've got the talent! Now you just have to get at these dudes real hard like!I do it on a daily basis so sooner or later somebody is gonna get with it!But,if your lookin' for a plug to some industry cats then I can't help you with that!I gave you my vision fam and that's all that I can do!Sorry!Peace!-Will

Now his response real gay like!
Sorry is right. I never once asked you for your opinion. And I've lived long enough to steadfast in my commitment not to explain myself. You know the problem with our culture is that people think that they have to speak because they're spoken to. It's not always the case. What you do and what I do are 2 different things. We're in 2 different worlds. You could've just said "Thanks for the Add"..and kept it gully. But you had to give me your booty scratchin opinion from your experience and then rate and compare me. All of which has nothing to do with my purpose. And I dont dwell in the likes of negativity. Learn from this. Apply it now and you shall receive all that God has planned for you. There no need to right me back. Thanks

Peace-Love-Voice & Funk

J-that Neoflippintrukid

What???lol.Did that nigga just say booty scratchin'?Now I know that nigga's gay!

My response.Still tryin' to be diplomatic at this point, even though homeboy is real emotional right given by the words in his last comment!lol

Whoa fam!I'm not the one to come off with the negativity homie!Plus I don't appreciate your choice of words with me when you clearly asked me to add you my friend! Now whatever you're lookin' for my friend I sincerely hope that you find it,but the way that you present yourself to me at this moment I surely doubt it playa! Now,I don't know you and you don't know me so let's definitely keep it 100 with each other! Now,if you didn't want my opinion, then what were you really looking for partna?I don't come off as a nigga who claims to know everything, but that was just my opinion my nigga!Which I think was very honest and real of me to even go that far with you homie!I've got my own grind going on over here my dude and I don't appreciate the total disrespect from you my friend!I don't go outta my way to disrespect people even if I ain't feelin' their music or their movement! But the TRUE problem of our culture is niggas like you believing the hype within yourself when you really need to take a step back my nigga! And for the record, you don't know what I do my nigga,so your statement has no foundation whatsoever homie! The people that I suggested to you were good looks from my stand point but I guess that I gave you too much credit!I still bid you peace my nigga even tho you come to me with some wack shit homie!Holla!

Now,this nigga's gay ass response...YOU DON'T LISTEN DO YOU?

What???LOL.Now I know for a fact that this nigga is Johnny Blaze!!!lol. And in no way do I mean any disrespect to any gay niggas across the world but...Damn sun, that was real homo thug of you homie!lol

It's all good tho,cuz in no way do I promote negativity on this page!I'm all about upliftment and good music over here fam!I'm still down to help this wack ass nigga out,so I'mma even post this nigga's url!lol. You wanted some shine,so here you go fam!

The Pledge Of Success...

What's good everyone? I've been away from the myspace thing for a minute. I had to take care of some personal family business that had me thinking about my future a lil bit! But it just so happened that while I was in my dream state about my future musically, financially, and family-wise, I came across this TIME magazine. And as I flipped through the pages, I found this article about a young cat who changed his life for the better from a life of gangs and crime! So every morning as he got prepared for his day, he would stand in front of the mirror and recite this pledge that one of his teachers from his high school introduced to him.

I was so thrown back by this pledge that I ripped it out of the magazine and put it into my wallet!lol. I plan to make copies of it and give it to my children to memorize, so hopefully they'll be inspired by it's words just as I was! I wanted to share it with everyone who takes the time to read my blogs and put up with my crap!lol. So here's my roundabout way of giving back! Peace!

Today is a new day,a new beginning.
It has been given to me as a new gift.
I can either use it or throw it away.
What I do today will affect me tomorrow.
I can not blame anyone but myself if I do not succeed.
I promise to use this day to the fullest by giving my best,
realizing it can never come back again.
This is my life and I choose to make it a success.

Dear Obama(Jay-Z's "Dear Summer")

Intro Talking:
Man,I was just going through some old emails and stuff when I stumbled across this old conversation that I had with RhymeFest about Barack Obama on my Myspace! It was crazy!Dude was saying that I was overly anti-government, and that I was about to miss out on an important chapter in African American history because of this anti-American stance!I ain’t anti-American homie!I just wanted to address that!

[Verse]
Dear Obama,I hope your ears are listening homie,
Before it’s over,we’ll make history homie,
I just wanted to make one thing clear,
All my peoples right here,
Backing you up,
So please don’t throw us under the bus,
Like you did to Jeremiah,
Farrakhan,
The homie Tavis Smiley,
But the movement we carry on,
I’m quite sure you’re not aware
I might say nigga in every song that I’ve made,
But I represent the streets,
So my dues gotta be paid,
A million brothers marching the roads
Martin has paved,
But by any means like Malcolm,
Let me predict the outcome,
I pray that racist thinking won’t rewrite this story,
But let me first give God the glory,
I’m here to represent the Most High,
There’s not a chance that goes by,
For my people,
I raise a right fist up to the sky,
The ghetto’s steady grieving,
But these tears we won’t cry,
The struggles real for 500 years,
That’s no lie,
Your presence is the stir of a country based on divide,
Don’t let me forget the conquer,
Let me finish my tantrum,
With every day we’re birthing a new breed of these monsters,
These Nazis planning a movement,
So where’s your guns sir,
Huh,guess who’s back,
Got to paperstack my celery,
Pardon me for my melody,
A nigga won’t be voting for shit if they’ve got a felony,
They’re pulling stunts in the booths,
So what you telling me,
I had this same convo with RhymeFest,
He said my views were based on the same stance that denies stress,uh
In simpler terms I’m bullheaded,
But I feel this way cause so many leaders have bullshitted,
Now I don’t knock the call of this man,
I’m full with it,
But consider every woman and man that SHOULD get it,
I represent the hustlers,
On the block on their pivot,
And the single parent homes where bills will push you to the limit,
Now I don’t need no votes,
And this is far from a gimmick,
Cause I speak for Jena 6 where the hangings they still mimic,
Yeah, thought I forgot about the plot that killed Kenneth,
With a single shot,
They blew off his top,
You must be kidding,(They’re not homie)
But still we keep winning,
Sign the biggest deals,
The illest of wheels we keep spinning,
I do this for the fact that my people got thick skin and,
But the world is full of pimps,
So the Devil,he keeps grinning,
Barack!

[Talking]
Dear Obama, don’t take this as a dis homie,
I’m all about brothers making new history,
But more importantly,I’m more about preserving the history and struggles of my people!Ya know,I just wanted a chance to speak on it.Peace.

Are Dreads Becoming The New Jheri Curl?

Call me a hater but…is it just me or are dreads becoming the like new Jheri Curl? Correct me if I’m wrong but, I distinctively remember from back in the days, that when you decided to grow dreads you ultimately adopted a certain sense of awareness within your actions to do so. Does anybody recall gaining knowledge of self before growing dreads? What about becoming one with your race as a culture? Or better yet, how about becoming more enlightened spiritually, and then seeking out divine truths over traditional falsehoods? Well fast forward to 2008 my friend, and you’ll quickly find out that growing dreads nowadays requires you to have none of the characteristics that’s anything remotely close to the aforementioned indicators.

As of lately, even the very thought of an individual having dreads, has been closely associated more with the likes of so-called thugs, goons, and even goblins, courtesy of the best rapper alive Lil Wayne. Honestly though, why anybody in their right frame of mind would want to be considered a goblin is by any means beyond my humanly comprehension, but I digress.

I’m almost certain though, that after this post, I’ll be receiving the typical hate mail and e-blogger death threats commonly posted on other sites. I wouldn’t even be surprised if I got a call from the Goons And Goblins Who Wear Dreads Coalition or something to that effect. (Laughing hysterically) No disrespect intended though, it’s just my random thoughts manifested out in the open. Please forgive me for the fact that the filter between my brain and my mouth has deliberately been removed. Holla!

My Computer Just Froze Because Of Your Myspace Page

Now, I don't know if anyone else has had this problem, but I've been meaning to speak on this matter for some time now, and just haven't had the time to do so!What is really good with people overloading their Myspace pages?I mean, like, real talk, why do people try and trick out their Myspace pages like it's an official webpage?lol. Straight up and down,Myspace ain't built for all of that over accessorizing of your page, with all the crazy graphics and unnecessary extras!I mean, damn, I can go on to some people's Myspace pages and it takes literally 20 minutes to download all the graphics just so I can even view the site!lol. Or the obvious happens...which is my favorite...THE PAGE JUST SIMPLY LOCKS UP!!! Thanks alot! Now I can't even snoop around on your shit! Geesh!!!lol. So a message to all the cheap ass Myspace artists and companies who don't wanna pay a legitimate web based designer company to build you an OFFICIAL site...SPEND SOME MONEY DAMMIT!!! Cause I know for a fact that Tom gets tired of having to do constant maintenance on your shit! Plus,I wanna add you as a friend and look at your pics and whatnot but...I can't do that because you've got so much crap on your page!!!lol. And on top of that my computer is mad slow! SO CUT IT OUT!!!lol.Peace!-Blog3

What Your Favorite Rapper Should SayAbout The State Of Hip Hop,But MoreThan Likely Never Will !!!

Long title right?I know, but,I couldn’t think of any shorter way to describe how
I really feel about how the game is right now!And the biggest problem? It’s not
how the labels sign and market adult language rap music to the kids! That’s
their parents job to police that! It’s not how the radio stations only play the same
10 songs in a row 24 hrs a day!And it’s damn sure not how your talent is judged
solely on your first week soundscan numbers! No!No!And hella NO!But,what DOES piss me off personally is how when these so-called Hip Hop magazines interview different rappers, and they pretend like the state of Hip Hop as we know it now is on some next level greatness!Like the game ain’t truly fucked up right now?!!!So in response to all of these half assed interviews that I painstakingly critique online…I decided to create my own mock interview where some boo boo online magazine that doesn’t really give two shits about the real culture of Hip Hop,but needs the money generated by the genre to stay afloat, interviews me!lol.
So,in short, this is my lil parody of how niggas ignorantly answer questions at these wack interviews! Not really, because my answers are little bit more in depth thought wise, but you’ll get the idea!lol. It’s crazy how artists try to tip toe around the tough questions as to not try and ruffle anybody’s feathers! But instead,I’m on some Mad Rapper shit!Word up!lol.Honestly, this would make an ill Boondocks episode for real!Maybe I’ll pitch this piece to Aaron!Shout out to Aaron McGruder and the Mighty Mos Def by the way for the ill Gangstalicious episode man!Classic shit homie! So if you ever get a chance to read this piece…Holla at your boy!lol.
Anyways, the name of this online magazine is TheGameReallySucksRightNow.com/!TGRSRN.com for short!Enough of the small talk, let’s get into it!So really open your minds and rock with me on this one!Peace!-Will a.k.a. Hip Hop Is Alive & Well/Tha Blogger 3

TGRSRN:What’s good Hip Hop Is Alive & Well? How you god?

HHIA&W:I’m good fam!Chillin’!Just workin’ my ass off you know.(interviewer laughs) You’re laughin’,but I mean that I’m literally working a real ass job homie!Ain’t shit sweet out here fam!But I’m still chasing my dreams,so it’s all good.I’m Gucci though.

TGRSRN:Right…so…since there are probably a lot of Hip Hop fans out there that never heard of you, give the readers a lil run down as to who you are!

HHIA&W:Word.Well,I’ve been grindin’ in this game since the early 90’s.Messed with several crews here and there, but nobody was really serious though.Hooked up with a cat by the name of Carlos Broady, who later went on to work for Puff up at Bad Boy.Shopped a few demos here and there.Got a lil feedback, but nothing ever really happened with that!So eventually,Los introduced me to his man DJ Paragon,we connected musically, and later went on to form The Order Of Assassinz!Which is a group and a business.Hashishinnya To The Grave! Now here I am talking to you. What?!!!

TGRSRN:Word.Being that you’ve been grindin’ for so long, what keeps you motivated to keep pursuing a career in rap?

HHIA&W:Well,to be really, really honest with you fam,and I know that this sounds hella cliché,cause nearly every rapper who never ever sell records always says this shit but…I really do love this shit homie!Straight up and down!As hella corny as that may sound right about now with the way that the game is playing out and all. But,I really do love making music!

TGRSRN:Word! That’s a bold statement to make right about now being that the industry is so ringtone driven, and your success is judged mostly on how your first week numbers pan out.

HHIA&W:Exactly!Exactly! That’s why I keep going man!I’m bigger than all of this Hollywood shit that’s going on behind and in front of the camera fam!Feel me?So I know that if I really keep at it,and go harder than any other artist and show these labels that I’m not no 15 minute nigga, that somebody who is ready to spend some real money is gonna eventually wake up and hopefully they’ll wanna hear some real shit!So here I am baby!(laughs)

TGRSRN:That’s what’s up!So,with that being said, how do you feel about artists who solely do this for the money?Do you have a problem with that?

HHIA&W:(eyes wide) Do I have a problem with niggas getting’ money?Naw man!Why would I have beef with that? But seriously, the problem that I DO have is when artists let the paper chase dictate their overall creativity! Then, that in turn dictates the music! So,if that’s your only motivation, which is getting’ that gwopp, then it eventually affects the way that you make music!

TGRSRN:Hmm…I see.You know,I’ve never really thought about it like that!

HHIA&W:And that’s my point exactly!Alot of people inside and outside of the industry don’t think about it either! Some don’t care, just as long as the money is flowin’.But,eventually,it’s gonna get to a point as to where the money is not gonna be so lucrative for rappers! To be honest,it’s reaching that point now!Cats have to secure other deals like commercial ads and whatnot just to eat.The music alone ain’t cuttin’ it anymore.Real talk,it’s like this,The Roots told niggas on their album “Things Fall Apart” that Hip Hop music as a genre is disposable music! And people never paid attention! The industry is tryin’ to fade this shit out just like they did with Jazz and eventually Disco! Now they’ve got so many different stigmas attached to the culture that media corporations don’t wanna really touch it!But they’re still able to capitalize a litte bit off of the music,so they’re just in the milking process right now.Sooner or later the shit is gonna play out though.Hopefully me and my team can get in and out before the bottom completely falls out of this thing!Word up!lol.Just like when Busta Rhymes was telling niggas that there was only 5 years left!Nobody listened!Same thing with the industry basically.

TGRSRN:So being that this is the case, why even continue to make music then?

HHIA&W:See,it’s like this man.(pauses) I’m an old head in this game man according to the industry standards.I’m thirty years and some change! So the industry ain’t messing with me on that level because they can’t market me to the teenie boppers! But if cats like me don’t stick around, who’s gonna have the younger cats that’s entering the game best interest?Surely not the labels!(laughs)

TGRSRN:So…what’s your solution for all of this madness within the industry?

HHIA&W:Well,to be brutally honest with you, there is no magic pill that dudes can take that would make everything be right in this game.Feel me?But,what myself and other cats like me will have to do is find other outlets for us to properly market our music! Then once we got our foot in the door, put other niggas that feel the same as we do on.Point blank. It’s gonna have to be a group effort!Ain’t no one team gonna be able to pull it off because the mega corporations’ movement is too big!Cause like I said before, ain’t no Interscope gonna sign no thirty plus year old rapper because it don’t make sense marketing-wise.I don’t care if you’ve got hot music or not!Now they might take your song and give it to one of their younger acts and put it out like that, but as for you performing that song in it’s original form…no way!
Now,don’t get me wrong,I’m not naive to the way that the game works,so I understand that in a sense. But,at the same time, you’re only marketing your product to one age bracket! So at the end of the day, you’re really alienating alot of people who would otherwise actually come out to the stores and by records just because they don’t fit the label demographics.

TGRSRN:Very insightful. We could actually talk about this hidden situation behind the scenes all day,But,unfortunately,we can’t.So tell us a little about what you have going on as an artist.

HHIA&W:Well, basically, what I have going on,to be perfectly honest,is just to secure a stable situation for me and my team!Shout to my nigga Tay Lee by the way! We’ve got a group called Soul Gritty which also moonlights as a songwriting/producing team.Plus my people Joe Brasco and J UniteUs out in Cali!My man Joe has an album out,and by man UniteUs is currently working on his solo joint. My team is on that,so be checking for that pretty soon! But,as far as industry moves, just basically trying to do a little ghostwriting and producing for other acts. And oh yeah, check out the new Steven Seagal flick when it drops! We on that joint too!I heard that niggas already have that on bootleg which is kinda foul, but whatever. It is what it is!Now,don’t get it twisted fam,we still believe in making hits!Whatever that means nowadays,(laughs) but we just have a different method as to how we approach our craft. But at the same time,we also realize what’s at stake behind the music and the politics of the business.

TGRSRN:Good interview.I’m really glad that we got the chance to sit down with you and get knowledge of the game from a different perspective.

HHIA&W:Well,that’s why I’m here fam.(laughs) All real story,no filler added!(laughs)

TGRSRN:Is there anything that you wanna let the people know before we go?

HHIA&W:Fa sho’!Fa sho’!Man…just be real with yourselves man! That’s all it is man.And all you old heads up there running these labels…QUIT HATING!Word up!Cause your boy is here to stay!

TGRSRN:Peace Will!

HHIA&W:One.

Hip Hop Is Channelling Freddie Mercury…lol

Not musically, but rather more stylistically for a better use of the term!!!LMAO!!!What is really NOT hood about the tight fitted jeans and shirts that rappers and Hip Hoppers alike are wearing these days?Where did this style come from as far as Hip Hop culture is concerned? Now,my boy told me that Run-DMC used to rock the tight fitted Levis back in the day but…I just don’t know homie!LOL.I’mma have to do a lil research of my own before I can truly confirm that info!LOL.Now,I can vividly remember back in the days we would rag on dudes who rocked the George Michael fitted joints! And I can candidly remember a couple of beatdowns being handed out to those who chose to go form fittin’ on us,but now very seemingly hood bred cats are embracing this style like that’s what’s really what’s up!Now,I know that your favorite rapper’s rapper rock the ass fitted jeans nowadays…but, does that really make it cool?I mean, really,I don’t know about you,but the “male camel toe” is Not a good look for any cat straight or gay!And lastly,no matter what you’ve been told…is SO not gangsta homie!LOL!Holla!-Will a.k.a. Now…let’s be truly honest with ourselves fellow African Americans…Is being the “first” so-called “Black President” really a good thing???I mean, look at all the stuff that African Americans in this country get blamed for already!!!The cause of high crime rates! The monetary and physical depression of once thriving “white” neighborhoods as soon as that first African American family moves in!Warefare, crack,AIDS,shit man,the list goes on and on!Then on top of all that, add the title of “The 1st Black President” to that list!Awww suki suki now! This country is in for some big trouble now baybee!!!LOL.Can you imagine that if Obama is indeed elected President Of The United States, how many problems that plague America, hidden and mainstream media exposed will be blamed on him?No matter what it is!It could’ve happened ten years before he even got into office and it’ll still be son’s fault! Now,truly, that’s a hell of a lot of weight for him to carry considering that we’re already six years deep in a seemingly never ending “War On Terror”!The existing economy is so jacked up that it is almost mimicking Third World economies!Plus tack on the already “Fear Of A Black Planet” after Lincoln so-called freed the African slaves in 1863!Then later revisited by Public Enemy in 1990!Thanks a lot Chuck!LOL!But seriously folks, let’s say that Obama DOES beat McCain and wins the 2008 Presidential Election to become the “first” African American President in our nation’s history…WILL WE BE READY???And by saying “WE” I mean African Americans!!!Think about it!Are we prepared to back this man mentally as well as physically when it comes to breaking the cycles that haunt us as a people in our communities?I'm damn sure ready...the question is...ARE YOU???Stay peace!-Will a.k.a. Breaking Into The Industry And/Or Having A Rap Career Past Age 30...Is There A Market For 30 Plus Rappers In Today's Hip Hop Industry???

When one hears the term “Hip Hop” (or as the younger generation of music consumers know it as today) as just simply “rap music”…what comes to mind?Is it the high school kid with the luxury of having their parents foot the bill for every expense that they can imagine from the latest sneaker to the trendiest clothes that they see on every rap video or internet site?Or is it the grown man/woman who is a student of the culture, with years of seeing the game transform and grow from the beginning, who loves the music, culture, and innovation of the culture, but also respects the hustle and sees the game for what it is,all while having a family and mad mouths to feed?Is Hip Hop/Rap a “game” or a “hustle”?Maybe it’s both?I think that’s for the individual who pursues this so-called “rap game” to decide but…what about the age limits or age requirements that are presented when it comes to getting in or even staying in the “rap game”?Who set those age requirements in the first place? Was it the young rapper trying to get a deal but can’t because all the older rap cats are still clogging up the lanes after so many years?Or was it the “old industry label heads” who doesn’t even like rap music, but knows that it makes him a lot of money and he likes that?!!!Also,in most cases, with age comes wisdom! And most younger artist don’t even think about publishing and all that! They just want to shine and be seen by their peers! Not saying that all young cats are like that but,the older cats want that paper to flow a lil smoother and more regularly because they have more responsibilities! Now,as we can see, there are alot of questions that need legitimate answers regarding this topic! And the sad thing about this topic is that no one with any real legitimacy in this culture seems to want to step up and give an honest and direct opinion/answer to this question! Now,take me for instance,I’m a 30+(36 to be exact)lover and creator of hip Hop music!I’ve had the luxury of being born in the early 70’s which has allowed me to grow up right along side the culture!I’ve seen it’s highs and it’s lows,as well as it’s golden and consicious/political eras!I am a fan as well as an artist and tend to carry the torch for both sides but…my question is this…when do I get too old to rap or listen to Hip Hop music?Surely, there’s plenty of rappers my age and older still making credible music right? So why the age limits when it comes to getting older and growing with the music?I’ve never understood the age concept myself, but many people have a “misconception” of who rap/Hip Hop is truly intended for!!! Many rappers nowadays even come into the game with that same concept of looking to get out before or at the age of 30!Now,it might just be me but,if you’re 26 or 27 and you’re just now coming into the game, that doesn’t leave you many options for a career in music now does it?LOL.Maybe that’s why alot of younger cats feel the need to put out 2,000 mixtapes(or street albums as they call it nowadays)before they even get an official release date on their debut album!LOL.I’ve never understood that either, but, whatever!Another thing that bugs me out is why is rap always so-called targeted to the youth, but more often than not have an adult content attached to it?How many “bust it babies” do you know in the 5th grade? How many 13 year olds do you know who can “make it rain” in the strip clubs every weekend? How many high school students own a Maybach or a Phantom?Shoot, how many adults own a Phantom for that matter?LMAO!!!But all jokes aside,I honestly believe that there is an audience and age bracket for every type of Hip Hop music that is being made today!Whether it’s Gangsta Rap,Hyphy,Crunk,Native Tongue,Conscious,or even this so-called “Hipster” rap with cats like Wale and Mickey Factz!Saying that Hip Hop is for the kids solely is just like saying that basketball or the NBA is strictly just for Black folks!I tend to believe that Manu Ginobili proves that it is not!LOL.But,for real for real though, think about it,most of our top rappers in the game are older than 30!From LL to Jay-Z!From Nas to Common!Even 50 Cent is over 30!So…who pulls the plug on 30+ rappers? Is it the youth who are consumers of rap?Noooo,I don’t think so!!!Most of the youth in this culture are driven and controlled by what is fed to them by Viacom Corporations!(Which is another story!)But obviously older rappers pose a threat to somebody in a powerful postion in the music industry,or they would truly be embraced more by the labels and media outlets! Now,don’t walk away from this and take my personal opinions as answers to the questions that I presented! My opinions are just that…my opinions! But somewhere down the line for this culture to survive,we have to choose our own thoughts! After we start doing that, then I’m quite optimistic that the music and culture will follow!!!Peace!-Will a.k.a.
